Free image formats for free image library

Just wondering: why GD doesn't support MNG & JNG yet?
It seems pretty obvious to me that a free image library like GD should support free image formats like MNG and JNG.
Any volunteers?
That seems like a good portion of fun for summer.
I'm absolutely sure Pierre would appreciate any help (not only [J|M]NG related).

Apparently not all browsers have MNG and JNG support...
and GD are most likely output images that a browser can use.

Browsers are important, but not the only use of GD.
Also I believe that PHP is able to make those image formats more popular, which may eventually make browser developers to support them.

You are right! Contributions of any form are more than welcome, check out our site at http://www.libgd.org (mailing list or IRC available too).

GD being used not only in web environment (plotting libraries, apps or embedded devices use it), more formats are useful for one or another. We are working on BMP, tga, tiff and animated gif (read all frames) support. They are likely to be in 2.1.0.
